1978 Ferrari 308 GTB.

Beautifully restored right hand drive carburettor car

Offered for sale is a right hand drive UK delivered 1978 Ferrari 308 GTB presented in Giallo Fly from the factory. The clock reads 37,906 miles which is believed to be genuine.  The car also retains its full service book pack, tools and jack in their correct pouches.  Benefitting from a nut and bolt restoration less than 2,000 miles ago, this example is in outstanding condition both mechanically and cosmetically.

The current owner acquired the car 7 years ago from a friend who had the car stored in running condition as an addition to his private collection of modern supercars. The car was then subject to a full body restoration, found to be in very good original condition, and then mechanically restored by a reputable Ferrari Specialist. The engine, gearbox and all corners have been fully rebuilt to factory specifications. The aim was to restore the vehicle whilst preserving the originality to maintain some patina of the vehicle.

The car was then carefully and sympathetically run in. This included testing the car in start stop London traffic on one of the hottest days of the year, to check all systems and reliability, something the owner insisted on. This has resulted in a matching numbers, fully restored icon of the 70’s that is turn key and ready to go.

Furthermore, the car will, before handover, be returned to the same specialist for a no expense spared full service with any snagging required to be sorted along with a detail, full geometry, and a fresh set of period correct tyres. Please note the original steering wheel will also be returned to the car fully re-trimmed.

As you would expect, the car presents in fantastic overall condition. The original deep dish front spoiler boasts a typically Ferrari-like aggressive stance, and the Giallo Fly paintwork is free from sun fading or any blemishes. All four wheels have been restored to a ‘period correct’ finish and will be complemented with new tyres.

The interior of any classic Ferrari is a cockpit like no other. Every car enthusiast dreams of experiencing it, and with the 40-year-old Ferrari smells, or the feel of the gated 5 speed manual, you will not want to leave. The car has its original dials and period correct steering wheel. The leather seats have been re-trimmed with genuine Ferrari leather, and the carpets too have been replaced with genuine Ferrari carpets. All buttons and switches work as they should.

The 308 GTB employed a tubular steel chassis with independent coil spring/wishbone suspension front and rear, complimented by anti-roll bars, adjustable dampers and powerful disc brakes. At its heart was a Formula One derived, all alloy, quad camshaft 3.0 litre V8 engine, allied to a transversely mounted five-speed manual gearbox. Being an earlier car (1978), this car benefits from a Carburettor setup over the later fuel injection. The Carburettors give a much more raw driving experience, with not only more power, but more importantly a soundtrack which will have you grinning every mile you drive.

BLE 731S is accompanied with it’s original book pack from new, including the all important service history book showing its outstanding record of maintenance, only missing minor periods where the car was off the road and stored in previous owners’ private collection.

Garage Sportique are proud to offer this Ferrari 308 GTB, which is a rare usable classic presented in investment grade condition. The level of restoration that this vehicle has been subject to, more in keeping with that of more rare and valuable Ferrari models, means it should provide years of trouble feel motoring requiring no more than routine and preventative maintenance for the next lucky custodian. It represents fantastic value for money given the aforementioned investment coupled with the true Ferrari experience and looks for Porsche 911 level of investment. We feel, with this specification and condition, it will be extremely sought after in years to come.
